Carpet mold can be a cause of severe odors, carpet degradation, and result in hypersensitivity issues such as asthma and contact dermatitis. Therefore, it is essential to check your carpets regularly to ensure that no mildew or molds growth is taking place underneath the mats. Thus, there are a few recommendations to ensure that the mats do not get the molds and if they do then there are a few home remedies:
- If you think that your carpets are getting molds or mildew contamination, turn over the carpets and check that if there is any growth of mildews or fungi on them.
- Ventilate the room in which the carpets are present. As the airflow will increase in the place, the humidity in the room will decrease which will lead to the reduction of molds. If it is not possible to ventilate the room, you can take the carpets into the sun and let them dry for 24-48 hours. The heat will dry the carpets and kill the molds. If you soak the carpets in the baking soda and let them dry for a couple of days, the efficiency of the molds killing will be much higher.
- Scrubbing the spot of the molds and mildews with baking soda or white vinegar is also a good idea so they are alkaline and will reduce the mildew and molds growth.
- If you are not willing to hire a professional cleaner yet, you can opt to use a cleaning Agent such as Varnish or detergents to get rid of the stain. You can also use the chlorine dioxide products which aid in the removal of stains and molds. Make sure that you carry out this activity in a well-ventilated room. If you feel that any irritation on the body or eyes is occurring, discontinue the process at once.
- Removal of the area of the stain and mold growth is the last option if you cannot extract the molds out. However, you can prevent the mold growth if you try to dehumidify your place. Dehumidifiers are available in the market. It is better to hire a professional to carry out these activities. Vacuum your home regularly or use HEPA vacuum cleaners to restrict the growth of molds and mildews.
